The Villarreal Manager was self-critical after defeat against Deportivo Alavés

The Villarreal Manager, Fran Escribá, was self-critical after the defeat against Deportivo Alavés (0-2). “We were talking about fatigue prior to the match, but it would have been better if we had conceded in the 70th or 80th minute. In the first 20 minutes we were completely out of the match”, he explained. “Football wise we weren’t bad, but the result overshadowed that. We weren’t clinical enough up front either”.

Football wise, the Manager mentioned various things that were key to the Submarine’s performance. First and foremost, effectiveness. “We had about 20 shots. We’re finding it difficult to score. The strikers are the ones that feel the added pressure in that sense”, he said.

After he pointed out that pressure was another important issue. “We didn’t pressure Deyverson nor Camarasa. They were free to play comfortably. Once we were pressuring more and taking more risks, I think we were better”, he added.

Escribá also talked about the group and said the changing room is “as it always is, but obviously more frustrated”. In any case, the Submarine must think about the next match now against CD Toledo in the Copa del Rey (Wednesday, 7pm CET). “I’ve always said that after two wins we can’t go to sleep; even less so after two defeats. We have to think about the Copa del Rey now and after get back to winning ways in the league”, he commented. And yes, there will be changes. “All the players have the level to participate. Against Toledo we’ll have to put in a good shift and go out there with the most competitive eleven possible”.
