Javi Calleja believes his side needed to sentence the match when they were “in the lead”
After the defeat to Leganés, Villarreal Manager, Javi Calleja, explained that even with all the players Villarreal have out, the mistake was not finishing the game off when the result was in the Yellows’ favour. “We had to make many changes and Bacca’s injury conditioned us. I don’t want to make excuses though, we’ll face what comes with what we’ve got and we’ll try to get some players back for the Barcelona match. But the match was not lost then, it was when we didn’t know how to finish off the game when we were in the lead. The team have come away hurt from this defeat. We know the mistakes we’ve made, but knowing them isn’t enough, we have to fix them”.
Nevertheless, the Yellows boss wanted to advocate the coming together of the group now, to keep moving forward and keep working: “The main thing now is to be more together than ever, lift our heads and get as many first team players back for the remaining matches. We have to stay calm and keep working”.
