Javi Calleja underlined the good performance from the Yellows against the parakeets
Villarreal coach Javi Calleja was disappointed that his side did not come away with victory against Espanyol: “We played well and had a good game, apart from minor things. We dominated, we pressured well and we got ahead. We’re going away with a point which is disappointing.”
The manager recognised how his team stepped up a level during the draw at La Cerámica: “The team was good defensively. I’ve seen them keen, with an extraordinary attitude and convinced that they could do everything in the match. In the first half, they didn’t cause us any problems. We managed to get ahead, and then, as a consequence, a number of things happen. Their first goal changed everything, but we need to believe we can win until the full-time whistle.”
Calleja assured fans that Villarreal will get out of this current difficult situation: “The players need to face each game as if their lives depended on it. We need to be united, together. Between all of us we will get out of it.”
Finally, the manager said he would not rule out sticking with the new formation ahead of upcoming games: “I liked the team’s solidity. It is a formation I consider for future ties and it’s possible we’ll use it until the end of the season.”
