A very important match. Villarreal CF will visit San Mamés (20:30 CET) this Saturday to face Athletic Club, a direct rival for the European football spots. It will be a tough hurdle for the Submarine according to Jaume Costa: “It will be a very difficult match. In the cup we played well against them, but we lost. It will be a hard game, intense and their fans help them a lot. We’re going with all the enthusiasm in the world to get the three points as they’re really important for us. We are not thinking about the gap we have over other teams, but just that we have to keep getting points. It’s fundamental that we go to face this encounter with high morale”.
The Yellow number 11 also highlighted their great run so far, that has seen them go nine league games without losing: “We’ve shown great dynamic and we hope to keep this going for as long as possible. The key is that this success is a result of doing many things well, both in defence and attack. We train to our best and then this is then reflected in our matches”.
Jaume Costa believes it will be very difficult to win games the second time round: “There is less and less of the season left and now comes the hard part. All teams are playing for something and it’s harder to win. Therefore, the run we’ve been on says so much. The league is much more competitive. The teams just get stronger and stronger. Anyone can beat anyone. I hope we can continue as we are in the coming years”.
To finish, the Villarreal left back wanted to send a message to the fans: “We are calm. Those of us which have been at the club for longer know where we’ve come from, having moved up from the Second Division. It’s true that every year we are going to improve and people get used to this, but we’ve got our feet on the ground”.
