The Villarreal Women head coach expects a tough match against FC Barcelona B (Saturday, 6pm CEST)
Villarreal Women head coach Virgy García appeared in front of the media to analyse the build-up to the match against FC Barcelona B, which will take place this Saturday, at 6pm CEST, at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
The match against FC Barcelona B will be the debut of the Yellow Submarine in Primera Federación after a very demanding pre-season: ‘The team has been working really well. We’ve had a pre-season against great opponents. There are a lot of new people in the team. We’re looking forward to starting tomorrow. We’re playing at home. The team is ready to compete.”
Villarreal will start with a duel against the champions of the division. A tough match to start with, as Virgy acknowledges: ‘They are champions like the first team. They’ve won Primera Federación for the last two years. They’ve had a lot of changes, but they’re a team that can rebuild themselves very well. Almost all of them are internationals and many have played with the first team, in fact, many have gone up this year. It’s a young team with very clear automatisms. It will be a tough game, but we like playing against the current champions. I hope it will be nice and evenly matched. Our aim is to get a good result.”
To get the three points in the league opener, Virgy stresses that it will be important to have a good atmosphere in the stands: “We want a good atmosphere at home and to have a connection between the team and the fans. It’s one of the most important things, but not only tomorrow, but always to get a lot of points at home. I encourage people to come and cheer the team on. We’ll try to give everything we can to make the fans proud of our football.”
The coach also analysed a division she knows well from her experience with Atlético de Madrid B: “There are no easy opponents in this division. Everything is very tight in this league. Nothing is decided until the last weekend. It’s a tough division with strong projects that are betting big. We have a lot of enthusiasm. We have to be consistent to try to be at the top.”
