Virginia Torrecilla bids farewell to professional football

The midfielder retires after playing eight games for Villarreal Women

Virginia Torrecilla Reyes has been an example of overcoming obstacles both on and off the pitch since she had to face, in May 2020, the toughest match of her life: a brain tumour.

With a long career behind her, having played for clubs such as FC Barcelona, Montpellier HSC and Atlético de Madrid, as well as wearing the Spanish national team jersey on numerous occasions, Virginia Torrecilla ended her time with the Madrid side this summer after recovering from her illness and joined Villarreal Women.

Now, the Spaniard is putting an end to her professional career and, as a result, she is leaving Villarreal CF Femenino after having played eight matches this season (152 minutes).

Villarreal CF would like to thank her for her commitment during these months and wish her the best of luck for the future.
