The Yellows failed to get a point from the rearranged match
Villarreal Women lost to UDG Tenerife (2-0) in a match where the Yellows, despite their hard work, where unable to deal with the physical nature of the Canarian side, who went ahead early on, forcing Sara Monforte’s side to have an uphill battle for a large spell of the game.
The Yellows started well, trying to find the attacking trident made up by Aixa Salvador, Sheila Guijarro and Belén Martínez and trying to cause problems for Tenerife in defence. Despite finding spaces, the Yellows were unable to finalise any of a number of attacks.
In the 21st minute, Tenerife made it 0-1 after a María José Pérez free-kick hit the post, before falling to the feet of Claire, who scored in an empty net after Elena de Toro had committed herself to trying to stop the previous effort.
The Yellows went into the half-time break with hope, and Sara Monforte made two changes before the start of the second half, with Sara Bermell and Estefa Lima coming on. However, the game restarted in the worst way possible, when a long-distance Sandra effort hit the bar, before bouncing off Elena de Toro and ending up in the back of the net.
The Submarine tried to score, and nearly managed to through a Lara Mata header, but it was impossible to get past the well-organised Tenerife defence that made no mistakes. Next up for Villarreal Women will be a game against Sevilla on Sunday 14th November at 12pm CET at the Vilarreal CF Training Ground.
