Jordi Ferriols’ side deserved to get something from their match against AEM, but left empty-handed
Villarreal Women lost narrowly to AEM in a game in which they deserved at least a point. In the end, an early goal from Inés settled the match.
The Yellows went into the game feeling good, having gone two consecutive games unbeaten thanks to a win and a draw.
The first chance of the game went to the Yellows. Miguélez put a ball in from the right flank and the rebound from the defence fell to Lauris, who tried her luck with a shot that went narrowly wide (m. 12). Just three minutes later it was 1-0. Inés headed home a cross from the right and Montse Quesada, who seconds earlier had made a superb save, was unable to stop the ball on its way into the net (m. 15).
Villarreal Women were looking to combine to create danger for their opponents. Aixa Salvador had a very clear chance to score after receiving an inside pass, but her right-footed shot went just wide of the post (m. 35).
In the second half, the Yellows kept trying. Jordi Ferriols introduced changes, bringing on Nerea Vicente and Querol in search of fresh legs. Later Luna and Maria Ferreira came on. The changes suited Villarreal Women well. Riquelme shot from the edge of the area and came close to tying the game. The home keeper saved the shot (m. 75).
The visitors’ attempts were not rewarded with a goal. Villarreal Women’s next match will be against Real Madrid B at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground on Saturday 29th March (4pm CET).
