Jordi Ferriols’ side fall by the narrowest of margins in a match full of chances
Villarreal Women were unable to take points against Real Madrid B despite putting in a brave performance, dominating large stretches of the match and creating several clear chances. The yellow goal came in the 66th minute thanks to Irene Miguélez.
The match started strongly for Villarreal. Before the three-minute mark, Aixa Salvador headed home a precise cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside. It was the first warning from the groguetes. Minutes later, in the 13th minute, Sara Medina tried her luck from distance, but her effort went over the bar.
The visitors responded with danger of their own. In the 23rd minute, Adri Folgado struck the crossbar with a powerful effort, and shortly after, in the 31st minute, Real Madrid B landed the first blow. Naiara pounced on a loose ball inside the box to make it 0-1. Just before the break, Aixa had a great opportunity to equalise, but her shot hit the side netting.
At the start of the second half, Real Madrid B doubled their lead through Toko, who scored with a precise finish in the 46th minute (0-2).
Even so, Villarreal kept pushing. In the 49th minute, Cienfu attempted a long-range strike, and in the 66th minute, came the reward. Irene Miguélez surprised everyone with a powerful effort from the right flank that flew straight into the net (1-2). The groguetes threw everything forward in the closing stages, with both Sara Medina and Rocío forcing chances, but the ball refused to go in, and Villarreal were left without the points they deserved.
