The Yellows lose to a tough Real Madrid side in the Round of 16
Villarreal Women had a tough encounter against Real Madrid in a one-legged tie in the last 16 of the Copa de la Reina. The Yellows fought tooth and nail until the final whistle in front of a crowd of around 850 spectators at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
In the build-up to the game, the Yellows took to the pitch accompanied by the Girls’ U10s team. The club also presented Nerea Pérez with a commemorative shirt for her 100 games in yellow.

Virginia García’s side played a very solid defensive game from the outset, stopping the visitors’ constant attacks with criteria and forcefulness. However, despite this, Alberto Toril’s side managed to take the lead on the half-hour mark with a thunderbolt from Alba Redondo (0-1).
A few minutes later, Montse Quesada’s spectacular save from a Real Madrid corner was enough to prevent a second before the end of the first half.
In the second half, Villarreal enjoyed a number of dangerous chances as Cienfu, Lauris and Aixa led a number of counter-attacks, threatening the goal defended by Chavas. In fact, the spectators present at the Mini Estadi were able to enjoy a much more aggressive Villarreal side, maintaining their defensive solidity.
The second goal came with a long-range effort from Tere Abelleira, which put the game to bed (0-2), and Villarreal Women said goodbye to the Copa de la Reina with honour and a fight.
