Despite María Macías pulling one back, the Yellows were undone by two Atlético de Madrid B counterattacks
Villarreal Women were unable to pick up points in their league opener, falling 1-2 against Atlético de Madrid B at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. The Yellows produced an excellent first half, creating several clear chances, but two counterattacks from the visitors late in the opening period proved decisive. The goal for Villarreal came from María Macías, who reduced the deficit but could not change the outcome.
The side coached by Jordi Ferriols started the match determined to dominate possession and play attacking football, which they showed during the opening half hour. Lauris tested the goalkeeper from the edge of the box and Sara Medina hit the crossbar with a powerful effort.
The Yellows went close again in the 29th minute, when Lucía Gómez attempted an acrobatic overhead kick that flew narrowly wide. However, just as Villarreal were enjoying their best spell of the game, Atlético de Madrid B struck twice on the counter. Cristina Redondo opened the scoring in the 41st minute (0-1), before Noa Ortega added a second just three minutes later (0-2, 44’).
In the second half, the visitors pressed high and created danger down the left flank through Celia, but Villarreal Women did not give up. Their persistence was rewarded in the 74th minute, when María Macías scored to make it 1-2. Nevertheless, despite pushing hard for an equaliser until the final whistle, Ferriols’ side could not take anything from their league opener.
