The Yellows are the only team in the top five European leagues to have not conceded a single goal
Villarreal are still yet to concede in LaLiga. Unai Emery’s team have shut up shop and are the only team from the big five European leagues who are yet to have a team score against them. The Yellows have backed up their spectacular start to the league campaign with an impressive defensive solidity.
Against Elche CF, the Submarine showed their best version at the back. They didn’t let the away side have a single shot on target, with the opposition creating an xG of 0.34. It’s the second best statistic in expected goals conceded for the Yellows, after the match against Getafe, when the side from Madrid had two shots on target and an xG of 0.29.
In the opening two games, Real Valladolid and Atlético Madrid threatened more, with the latter having an xG of 1.34 with five shorts on target, and the former having an xG of 0.9 with six shots on target.
In those two matches, Gero Rulli made a number of great saves to keep the opposition out.
