Unai Emery’s men lose late on at La Cerámica
Villarreal lost at La Cerámica (1-2) against Osasuna in a game where they deserved at least a draw, after having a number of chances, but the away side were more clinical.
The Yellows started the game in the opposition half, creating a number of chances. The first of them early on, came from Dani Parejo, with a shot from the edge of the box. The next chance came from a pass out wide from Arnaut Danjuma to Manu Trigueros, who was just unable to reach the ball in the six-yard box. The Dutch winger was electric on the left flank for the entirety of the first half.
Pau Torres could also have scored with a header from a corner, but only a minute later, Torró scored for Osasuna, putting them ahead. The Yellows continued to try. Alberto Moreno tried his luck from the edge of the box, with a low shot which went just wide of Sergio Herrera’s post, with the goalkeeper at full stretch.
Villarreal were struggling to break down the Osasuna defence until ten minutes into the second half, when Gerard showed that he was back from injury with a fantastic volley from an Alfonso Pedraza cross, flying past the Osasuna goalkeeper.
The left-back had the best chance for Villarreal after the equaliser, being denied by the woodwork. Paco Alcácer, who had just come on, had a headed chance, but failed to make proper contact. The Yellows continued to reach the box, but without reward. It ended up with Osasuna winning after Chimy Ávila went one-on-one with Gero Rulli.
Next up for Villarreal will be this Wednesday at 9pm CEST against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League.
