The Yellows have partnered with the race alongside the other elite clubs in Valencia
Villarreal CF wanted to support the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon, alongside the other elite Valencian clubs, in the regular act of twinning ahead of the 41st edition of the race, which will take place in the city on Sunday 5th December.
The race, presented officially at the All In One Caixabank office, only had an elite edition last year because of the pandemic, which means that with the participation of the general public with thousands of runners returning this year, there is a lot of excitement.
Fernando Roig Negueroles, Villarreal CF CEO, represented the club at the event, which was also attended by Caixabank Valencia director Xicu Costa; Levante UD president Quico Catalán; Valencia Basket Club general manager Francisco Raga; Valencia CF institutional ambassador Miguel Tendillo; and Elche CF vice-preisdent Julio César Giner. From the race, Vicente Sanz, vice-president of SD Correcaminos, organiser of the event alongside the Valencia Council, hosted the event.
+en Meta with the support of Teika
As well as Fernando Roig Negueroles, the event also was attended by Villarreal Women player Sheila Guijarro, who took part in the ‘+ en Meta’ campaign hosted by Valencia Marathon and Teika, the Yellows’ official sponsor.
The aim of the initiative is to encourage the participation of more women in the race, with more female runners taking part each year. Nearly 3,000 women are registered for the Valencian marathon this year. Despite that, the number of women taking part in the whole of Spain is below the average of countries in the north of Europe.
Both Valencia Marathon and Teika want to increase the statistics with various initiatives, such as the ’12 en meta’ documentary which shows inspiring stories of women for whom sport is a fundamental part of their lives.
