The club has reached an agreement with Atlético de Madrid for the Spanish-Uruguayan defender, who signs for the next five seasons
Villarreal CF and Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of Spanish-Uruguayan defender Santiago Mouriño, who will join the Yellow Submarine for the next five seasons.
The footballer is currently in Oviedo with the rest of the team, who yesterday played a friendly triangular tournament against Real Oviedo and Genoa. The new Groguet will train there for the first time this Friday alongside his new team-mates, under the orders of head coach Marcelino García Toral.
The versatile defender, who can play both as a centre-back and right-back, adds depth to Marcelino’s side in defence. At 23 years of age, Mouriño arrives at Villarreal after spending last season with Deportivo Alavés. Known for his youth, strength, pace and defensive solidity, he also stands out for his ability to play out from the back.
Álvaro Santiago Mouriño González (Montevideo, 13/02/2002) came through the youth ranks at Uruguayan side Club Nacional de Football, before joining Racing Club de Montevideo in 2022. A year later, Atlético de Madrid signed him, but he spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Real Zaragoza. Last campaign, he played for Deportivo Alavés, making a total of 27 official appearances. Mouriño is also a Uruguay international.
Welcome aboard the Yellow Submarine!
