The Mini Submarine lost in a match marked by the early and rigorous sending off of Etta Eyong
Villarreal B were defeated by AD Ceuta in Sunday evening’s match at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. The early and rigorous sending off of Etta Eyong in the sixth minute of the game, tipped the balance in favour of the visitors who took the win thanks to a goal by Salazar in the 12th minute despite the determination shown by the Yellows, who came from behind to take a point with a man down.
Villarreal B had an uphill struggle from the start. In the sixth minute of the game, Etta Eyong was shown a red card after a high tackle where his foot whent over the head of the opposition defender in a challenge for the ball. The Mini Submarine would have to play most of the game without their top scorer on the pitch.
Ceuta soon took advantage of their numerical superiority on the pitch. Zalazar, after a team move, found himself unmarked inside the box and with a shot placed with his left foot beat Iker Álvarez to make it 0-1 in the 12th minute of the game.
The Mini Submarine managed to get into their opponents’ half despite being a man down. However, their approaches, which came from a very active Toni Tamarit and Víctor Valverde -the Yellows’ main man in attack after Etta’s dismissal- did not bother the visitors too much.
Iker Álvarez prevented Ceuta from taking a bigger lead before the break. The goalkeeper came up with two great saves from Koné and Capa, respectively.
Not much happened during the first part of the second half. Villarreal B didn’t suffer too much in defence, but they did suffer when it came to mounting attacks that sought out the weaknesses in their opponents’ defence.
For this reason, Miguel Álvarez looked for a reaction from the bench with Slavy coming on in place of Thiago Ojeda.
And it was a combination between Slavy and Valverde in the 71st minute that would prove to be the Mini Submarine’s best chance of the second half so far. A one-two between the Yellows’ No.21 and No.9 ended with Valverde’s attempted lob going wide.
In the final stretch of the game, Luis Quintero, Dani Budesca and Brais Val came on to give the Yellow Submarine one last spark in their search for an equaliser.
In the end, the Mini Submarine fell to a narrow defeat against AD Ceuta despite going down to the wire in search of an equaliser with a man down on the pitch.
Villarreal B will travel to Andalusia to face their next game, which will take place on Sunday 9th March, at 12pm CET, against Marbella FC at the Municipal Antonio Lorenzo Cuevas.
