The Yellows Reserves were the better team but Alcoyano equalised in the 93rd minute
Villarreal B were left with a bitter taste in their mouth. The Yellows Reserves deserved a victory against Alcoyano, due to their dominance on the pitch and chances, but they drew at the end of the match after a late equaliser in the 93rd minute. The Yellows goals came from Nikola Vujnovic and Simón Moreno, while the home side’s goals came from Antonio Pino and Eldin Hadzic (2-2).
The Mini Submarine got ahead early on, with Manu Morlanes playing a great inside pass for Vujnovic, with the Montenegrin striker finding the back of the net after passing goalkeeper Miguel Bañuz.
Alcoyano equalised in the 24th minute. Pino headed in a cross from the right to level the scores.
The Yellows dominated, while the side form Alicante were backing themselves on the counter. In the 37th minute, there was another dangerous moment for the Yellows. Moreno left a number of opponents for dead, before getting one-on-one with Bañuz, but his shot failed to test the goalkeeper.
The striker was one of the standout players on the pitch. In fact, before the end of the first half, he took centre stage in a controversial moment, when he was brought down on the edge of the box, with the referee failing to blow for a penalty (m. 40).
The second part started like the first, with a Villarreal B goal. Moreno got on the end of a long pass, turned in the area and sent a right-footed howitzer into the back of the net via the post. Golazo (1-2, m.50).
Chuca’s return
In the 70th minute Chuca returned to the pitch for Villarreal B after his loan spell at Elche. The midfielder replaced Fran Álvarez.
The Mini Submarine nearly killed the game off in the 74th minute. Iván Martín robbed the ball, centred for Dani Villa, whose shot was somehow kept out by Bañuz. Second later, Chuca hit the post.
Two minutes later, Alcoyano were left with ten men after Franck Fomeyem’s injury. The home side had already made three changes, leaving them a man down. The Yellows’ chances carried on coming in, but the ball failed to go in.
Villarreal B also ended the match with a man less. Andrei saw a second yellow for stopping the goalkeeper kicking it out. The goal to make it 2-2 came second later, with Eldin heading home.
Next up for Villarreal B is a game against SD Ejea at the Mini Estadi (Saturday, 5pm CET, Villarreal CF Live).
