The Yellows take a giant step towards survival after beating Real Sporting with goals from Ontiveros and Carreira

A golden victory. Villarreal B took a giant step towards their goal of achieving survival in LaLiga SmartBank by beating Real Sporting with goals from Javi Ontiveros (from the penalty spot) and Carreira (2-0).

Miguel Álvarez was able to count on a luxury ‘reinforcement’. Ramón Terrats, who has played regularly with the first team, returned to the B team this weekend to help them in their goal of survival.

Ontiveros was another of the other main stars of the match. The skilful winger was a constant nightmare for the Asturian defence. In the 31st minute, Ontiveros played a brilliant inside pass to Millán, and the Zaragoza man’s powerful shot was narrowly blocked by Cuéllar. It was the prelude to the 1-0, which took just seven minutes to arrive.

In the 38th minute, Diego Collado’s shot was blocked by Jose Marsà’s arm inside the area. The referee pointed to the penalty spot and Ontiveros took responsibility for converting the spot-kick to make it 1-0.

In the second half, the Yellows had the chance to finish the game off with a counter-attack by Álex Millán, but the Yellows No.9 shot went over. Shortly after, Sporting were down to ten men on the pitch. Marsà was shown a second yellow card for a tackle on Diego Collado and his side were now down a man (m.51).

Villarreal B scored in the 84th minute. Sergio Carreira unleashed a low right-footed shot that went softly into Cuéllar’s goal after touching a Sporting defender (2-0).

With this victory, Miguel Álvarez’s side have picked up three golden points in their fight for survival in LaLiga Smartbank. Their next game will be against UD Las Palmas away from home (Sunday, 9pm CEST).
