The Yellows lose in a tight game in which the Mini Submarine’s errors cost them
Villarreal B left empty-handed from their visit to CD Ebro (2-1). Miguel Álvarez’s side were unable to come away with a point from their visit to Zaragozan soil, with the match going in favour of the home side, despite the notable performance by the Yellows during the opening 45 minutes. Mistakes from the Mini Submarine, as well as the home side showing a cutting edge, decided the game.
The match started in the best way possible for Villarreal. In the eighth minute, the in-form Rafa Mujica put Álvarez’s team ahead after getting on the end of a long Edu Espiau pass.
After that goal, the Yellows had their best spell at the Pedro Sancho. Villarreal B imposed their playing style, passing around well, and dominating their opponents. But just before the break, one piece of play changed everything.
CD Ebro were surprisingly effective, scoring the first clear chance they had. Rubio sent a header into the back of the net in a controversial piece of play, as a Yellows defender received a blow to the head in the build-up to the goal.
The second half saw a great chance for Álex Baena, who was unable to convert a shot from the edge of the area, with the goalkeeper out of position, hitting the post.
After a number of tight minutes passing, CD Ebro made the most of an error from the Yellows passing the ball around to complete the comeback. Rubio stole the ball, beating Diego Fuoli with his effort. It was a hard blow for the Yellows, who ended the match with ten men after Diego Collado was sent off in the 76th minute.
The Mini Submarine didn’t throw in the towel and pushed for the draw, but were unable to due to their numerical inferiority. Next up for Villarreal B is a home game to UE Cornellà on Saturday at 5pm CET at the Mini Estadi.
