The Yellows Reserves deserved better luck against Lleida Esportiu at the Mini Estadi (0-1)
Hard work with no reward. The Villarreal B team lost by the smallest of margins at the Mini Estadi against Lleida Esportiu (0-1), in a match that was decided in injury time by a penalty awarded to the Catalonian side. The Yellows Reserves deserved, at least, a point from the match, in which they had several clear chances on goal but just could not convert.
The Villarreal B team maintained possession of the ball and created a lot of dangerous plays in the first half. The Yellows put in a great collective performance, from the back line through to the forwards, but Lleida Esportiu took advantage of their counterattacks to put Cantero under pressure.
In the second half, Villarreal B and Lleida Esportiu were involved in a constant battle for the ball. Both teams had their chances to attack and it was the Yellows that got closer to their opponents’ goal, but with no luck. In the end, Lleida Esportiu had the final say at the Mini Estadi, after a cruel penalty was given in injury time after a cross struck Juan Ibiza’s hand in the box. It was Miki Muñoz who stepped up to convert from the penalty spot for the visitors.
The Villarreal B team’s next match is away against l’Hospitalet on Sunday 12th March (12pm CET).
