The Yellows Reserves grew into the match and had clear chances in the second half (1-2)
Villarreal B lost against UE Olot at the Mini Estadi at the Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) after a match in which they improved as it went on, and deserved to take home more than a point (1-2).
The Catalan side got ahead on the scoreboard through Pep Chavarría, with an unstoppable left-footed strike from the edge of the area (0-1, min. 19).
The Mini Submarine found it difficult to get into the rhythm of the game. In fact, they had to wait until the start of the second half to see the equaliser. That came through Mukwelle Akale, who was a half-time substitute. The American forward scored with a neat finish after a great piece of team play (1-1, min. 48).
Villarreal B went for it completely and overrun their opponent at the start of the second half. Dani Villa, twice, and Iván Martín had chances to put Miguel Álvarez’s side ahead, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
When the Mini Submarine were on top, the goal to make it 1-2 came. An unexpected blow. The ball hit Simón Moreno’s arm and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, with Marc Mas making the most of the spot-kick (1-2, min. 60).
Luck just wasn’t on Villarreal B’s side for the rest of the game. A cross-cum-shot from Xavi Quintillà that hit the bar when it looked to be heading to the back of the net was proof that it just wasn’t their day (min. 89).
