David Albelda’s side earn another away draw before the Christmas break
Villarreal B picked up their second consecutive away draw in as many matchdays. The Yellows repeated last weekend’s 0–0 result in Ibiza to claim a valuable point on the road. David Albelda’s side created chances but were unable to convert them in a match in which Algeciras also had their moments, though with less clarity than the Groguets.
Algeciras controlled the opening minutes and were the first to threaten with a header at the far post that ended up in the back of the net. However, the goal was ruled out for offside, as the home player was in an illegal position when he headed in a lofted ball from the right.
From that moment on, Villarreal B reacted. And within just one minute, they warned the Andalusian side. Álex Rubio forced Iván Moreno into a crucial save to prevent the opener. The Madrid-born striker flicked on a cross from Víctor Moreno on the right, which the goalkeeper diverted for a corner.
The Mini Submarine’s attacking threat largely came through Víctor Moreno, who was lively and influential down the right flank.
Before the break, Eneko came close to scoring with a low cross-shot from a set-piece move. The Burgos-born defender arrived unexpectedly on the edge of the box to meet a corner delivered from the right. The ball missed the target by just a few centimetres.
Albelda’s side deserved more from a first half that ended goalless.
At the start of the second half, chances arrived for both teams. Facu Viveros missed a clear one-on-one against Iván Moreno. A minute later, Álex Rubio once again came up against the home goalkeeper, who saved a powerful effort from outside the box.
Algeciras also wasted a great opportunity to take the lead. Just past the hour mark, Kinareikin showed superb reflexes to keep out a dangerous looping ball that was heading towards goal.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock, and the initial 0–0 remained unchanged until full time. The Mini Submarine picked up another away point — a solid result against a tough opponent on their own ground. With this draw in Algeciras, David Albelda’s team bring 2025 to a close.
