The head coach believes the Yellows fully deserved all three points
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral reflected on his team’s 1-2 win over Sevilla, saying he considers the result not only fair but even tight given what happened on the pitch. “Winning here is always very difficult. These matches are long, Sevilla presses a lot, and it’s always tough with a crowd that also puts pressure on. We won on clear merits. I think the victory is fair and narrow.”
For the Asturian, the Submarine showed it had enough weapons to cope with the intense environment: “Sevilla are a bold, aggressive team that goes all out at all times. We defended very well and created chances, but it was very hard. It’s difficult to produce as many opportunities as we did today. Later, the match changed, they dominated, and with the goal everything becomes more complicated, but we recovered and the team knew how to resolve the situation.”
Regarding the numerous changes made by both sides, the coach emphasised that these are dictated by the circumstances of the match. “Both teams made many changes because otherwise it’s impossible to meet the physical demands imposed by the opponent. We try to be consistent and have full confidence in all our players. You have to give everyone opportunities as long as they continue working the way they do.”
