Villarreal B beat UB Conquense, go top of the table and get their fifth consecutive victory
Five wins in a row. Miguel Álvarez’s Villarreal B side have won once more at home, beating UB Conquense 3-2. The Yellows fought back from an early goal from the visitors thanks to a brace from Dani Villa in the first half and an own goal after the break. UB Conquense scored a penalty with 12 minutes to go to make it a nervy end to the match.
The Mini Submarine were taken aback by the intense start from their opponents, who in the fifth minute of the match were already ahead on the scoreboard. Their top goalscorer, Jairo, was first to a rebound in the box and got the first goal of the game.
The Yellows didn’t fold though, and conscious that they had the whole match in front of them, and started to try and find the ‘groguet’ forwards with balls into the space. In the 33rd minute, Villa equalised after a bad piece of control by an opposition defender allowed him to go one-on-one with Marqueta. Just before the break, an unstoppable Villa took centre stage once more, avoiding the goalkeeper and putting the ball in the corner of the net. Álvarez’s side, after a quick turn around, went into half-time ahead.
At the start of the second half, a magnificent piece of individual play by Samu Chukwueze led to an own goal by UB Conquense. Villarreal B were dominating the middle of the pitch in a competitive game. With it looking like a comfortable win for the Yellows, the referee gave a penalty to the away side for a foul by Xavi Quintillà. From the spot, Jairo scored once more, giving his team hope.
In the closing stages, Conquense threw everything at it, but Villarreal B held firm and kept them out. The Mini Submarine came away with three points and got their fifth consecutive victory, which put them top, with previous leaders Hércules still to play Valencia Mestalla this weekend.
Villarreal B are heading to England on Tuesday to play Hertha Berlin (Wednesday) in the second matchday of the Premier League International Cup.
