Yellows supporters honour Álex Baena, Ilias Akhomach, Ayoze Pérez and Gerard Hernández before the match against Atlético de Madrid
Ahead of Matchday 1 of the LALIGA EA Sports season against Atlético de Madrid, Villarreal CF paid tribute to their four international champions from the summer: Álex Baena, who won the European Championship and Olympic gold in Paris with the Spain national team; Ilias Akhomach, bronze medallist at the Olympic Games; new signing Ayoze Pérez, who also won the European Championship; and B team central midfielder Gerard Hernádez, who won the European Under-19 Championship.
Each of the players was also given a small ceramic submarine by president Fernando Roig. Atlético de Madrid players Robin Le Normand and Pablo Barrios, who won the European Championship and Olympic gold respectively, also received this gift from the club.
