Villarreal Women were unable to overcome the two goals scored by the Pamplona side in the first half from corners
Villarreal Women, with two draws in their last two games, travelled to Pamplona to face CA Osasuna, with two more points to their name. However, despite trying their best until the end, the Yellows were outclassed by a home side who knew how to do their damåååage from corner kicks.
It was the home side who struck first as soon as the game got underway. It was the sixth minute when Yiyi took advantage of a rebound from a corner kick and scored the first goal (1-0). After this first blow, the Yellows increased their attacking intensity, looking for an equaliser, but luck was not on their side. Marianela Szymanowski had the first chance with a shot from the edge of the area, Lena Pérez had a header from a Nerea Vicente cross and Lauris came close to latching on to a pass from Maria Ferreira. However, in each and every one of them, the ball ended up in the hands of the home keeper.
In the 37th minute came the second blow for Jordi Ferriols’ side. After another corner kick, Barquero took advantage of a dead ball in the area to score the second goal for the Red and Whites (2-0); a result that would take them to the break.
In the second half, Jordi Ferriols reshuffled the bench, looking to give a fresh look to the attack. However, despite the introduction of players such as Elena Gil and Laura Riquelme, they were unable to turn the score around. The Yellows tried on several occasions with long balls into space, but they could not find a finisher and ended up in the hands of the CA Osasuna goalkeeper. Thus, the game came to an end with a painful 2-0 scoreline.
The positive point of the match came from Alexia Jr, who returned to the pitch after being sidelined for 138 days due to injury.
