Villarreal CF played their first match at the Santiago Bernabéu
Today, 31st August 2020, it is the 22nd anniversary of Villarreal CF’s first match in the top flight of Spanish football. A historic match where the Yellow Submarine faced Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu (31/08/98), and a game that is now part of our history.
Villarreal went ahead in the third minute with a header from the legendary Gica Craioveanu, who had the honour of scoring the Yellows’ first goal in the top flight. Real Madrid turned the tie around and ended up winning 4-1.
