LaLiga has announced the times and dates for the Copa del Rey Round of 16 matches, in which Villarreal will play against CD Leganés. The first leg of the cup tie will be played on Thursday 4th January at the Butarque stadium at 7pm CET (live on beIN Sports) and the return leg will be at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Wednesday 10th January at 7:30pm CET.
Cup history with the blue-and-whites
There is Copa del Rey history between Villarreal and Leganés, as both teams faced each other in the Round of 64 in the 1999/2000 season. In the first leg, played at the El Madrigal stadium, as Villarreal’s ground was formerly known, Leganés beat the Yellows 0-1 (James Madariaga), but the Yellow Submarine got through to the next round after a 0-3 win in the second leg (Jorge López, Alfaro and Javi Gracia).
