Strong winds defined a match in which Villarreal Women deserved more in several phases
Villarreal Women fell to Tenerife B (1-3) in a match heavily conditioned from the start by strong winds, which made play difficult for both teams. The Yellow goal that briefly restored hope (1-2, 57th minute) was scored by Aixa Salvador.
Villarreal Women came out strongly and created the first chances of the match. In fact, Sara Medina tried her luck with a shot that went over the bar and, shortly after, it was María Macías who attempted a strike. In the following minutes, Macías tried again and Aixa Salvador joined the list of chances, as her shot went just wide.
However, despite this strong start from Jordi Ferriols’ side, the team from Tenerife struck first. In the 30th minute, Esther took advantage of a loose ball inside the box after a save from Montse Quesada, and from almost on the ground pushed the ball into the net (0-1). The Yellows’ reaction was immediate, as Aixa scored barely two minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
After the break, the Yellows pushed forward again. María Macías came close to equalising with a powerful shot that went just wide of the post. However, Tenerife struck once more. In the 55th minute, from a very long set piece, Noelia Salazar hit the crossbar and, after bouncing, the ball crossed the line (0-2) in a very confusing action.
Aixa Salvador, this time yes, managed to reduce the deficit in the 57th minute (1-2), giving the hosts hope. But Tenerife struck again, sealing the final result. Marrero took advantage of another loose ball inside the box in the 73rd minute to make it 1-3.
Villarreal Women’s next match will be away to Cacereño on Sunday 5th April at 5pm.
