Saudi midfielder Salem Al Dawsari has been called up to play against Arsenal on Tuesday (8pm CEST)

Villarreal U23 will face Arsenal U23 this Tuesday 10th April in the Semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup that will take place at The Emirates Stadium (7pm GMT / 8pm CEST). The young Yellows, managed by Miguel Álvarez, are participating in this tournament with the aim of going very far. In fact, just two seasons ago, Villarreal won the prestigious competition by beating PSV Eindhoven in the final.

The Villarreal U23 are through to the semis after topping Group F, in which they won all three of their matches against Benfica (3-2), West Ham (0-3) and Tottenham (0-2), and winning their quarter-finals match against Manchester United (0-2).

The objective of the U23 Premier League International Cup is to encourage and enrich youth football on British soil by providing a superior training experience with the inclusion of teams from the strongest European leagues. The Premier League has chosen 12 English teams and 12 European clubs, with a distinguished Reserve team tradition, to participate and among those is Villarreal CF.

18 players travelling to England:

  • Goalkeepers: Joan Femenías and Josele.
  • Defenders: Miguelón, Quintillà, Franquesa, Juan ‘Ibiza’, Roger Riera and Ramón Bueno.
  • Midfielders: Salem, Raba, Chuca, Imanol, Pedro and Lozano.
  • Strikers: Dalmau, Rubén Mesa, Mario González and Darío Poveda. 

Travel Plan

The Yellow expedition set off this morning from Valencia Airport to London Gatwick Airport. During their stay in England, Villarreal will be staying at the Double Tree Islington Hotel. The return journey will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday 11th April.
