Villarreal B enjoyed the better chances but came away empty-handed after an early Real Murcia goal
The Mini Submarine failed to score on their visit to the Estadio Enrique Roca, despite playing a serious match full of merit. A solitary goal from Real Murcia, thanks to David Flakus, in the early stages of the game meant a narrow defeat for Miguel Álvarez’s side.
The start was not favourable for Villarreal B. The home side took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from David Flakus, who took advantage of a quick move to beat Iker Álvarez (1-0). From then on, the Mini Submarine stepped up and began to dominate the game, getting strong in midfield and carrying the weight of the game. In fact, in the 21st minute, the Yellows came very close to scoring the equaliser with a double clear-cut chance. However, neither the cross nor the rebound resulted in a goal.
Miguel Álvarez’s men continued to insist with a good attacking display and kept control of the ball. Dani Requena tried from long range in the 38th minute, but the home goalkeeper made a great save. In turn, Requena and Víctor Valverde kept looking for the goal.
In the second half, Villarreal B maintained their attacking approach and generated new chances. However, the coin did not come up heads. In turn, they had to withstand a couple of dangerous onslaughts from the home side, who came close to extending the lead with a powerful shot from Pedro Benito.
In the closing stages, the Yellows stepped up their attacking pressure and came close to an equaliser in the 91st minute. However, once again, Víctor Valverde’s shot failed to find the target. In this way, Villarreal B left Murcia empty-handed in a match in which they enjoyed more possession and chances than their opponents, but without any luck.
