The Submarine have scored 44 goals in 22 matches of the LALIGA EA Sports season, their best record in the top flight

Villarreal CF are setting record goalscoring records in the current LALIGA EA Sports season. After 22 games in the league, Marcelino’s side have scored 44 goals. An average of two goals per game, something that had never been achieved by the Yellows in the top flight at this stage of the competition.

One of the highest scoring teams in LALIGA EA Sports

The Submarine are the third highest scorers this season (44), behind only Real Madrid (50) and FC Barcelona (60). Marcelino’s side manage to find the back of the net with ease. They score an average of two goals per game, which translates into a total of 44 goals in 22 games played in LALIGA EA Sports.

Goalscoring, a shared responsibility

A collective contribution is more than necessary to become one of the highest-scoring teams in the history of Villarreal CF. Up to 16 different players have contributed goals or assists. Each and every one of the offensive players in the squad who have played a minute or two have managed to score goals or assist a teammate, and of the 44 goals, 31 have been scored by offensive players.

In the goalscoring department, it is worth highlighting the figure of Ayoze. The Tenerife native is in a great moment, offering a very high level and helping the team with goals and assists. His goalscoring figures make him -for the moment- the current top Spanish goalscorer in LALIGA EA Sports.

With nine goals, he is tied with Kike García, the Deportivo Alavés striker, but his goals per minute average puts him ahead. The striker manages to find the back of the net every 93 minutes played in LALIGA EA Sports.

A common factor: being strong at home and finishing in Europe

Whenever Villarreal CF have stood out for their goalscoring record, as well as finishing in the Champions League or Europa League places, they have always managed to be a more than reliable team at home. In the current campaign, as Marcelino has acknowledged, the Submarine are looking to improve their numbers at the Estadio de la Cerámica in the second half of the season.

However, despite more draws than they would have liked, they have only been defeated in two home games so far. A record that is in line with the seasons in which they have been the highest scorers. In those, at most, they have lost a total of four games at La Cerámica.

The squad and the coaching staff are committed to the objective of being solid at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The fans were able to enjoy two wins and very attractive football in the last matches played in Vila-real, against RCD Mallorca (4-0) and Real Valladolid CF (5-1).

The highest scoring teams in our history

Since its first season in the national top flight, the club has enjoyed very attacking and high scoring teams. Even so, none of them managed to score more than 44 goals in the league after the first 22 games. Among the historical teams that have come closest to these records are, in addition to the current season, the 2013/14 and 2007/08 seasons.

In the more recent of the two, the team, also coached by current head coach Marcelino, managed to reach the figure of 42 goals on Matchday 22. The Yellows club finished the league campaign in sixth place, making it into Europe. That year, Perbet (10 goals and 2 assists), Uche (14 goals) and Giovani Dos Santos (11 goals and 8 assists) and Jony Pereira (4 goals and 6 assists) contributed.

In the year in which they finished runners-up, the team only lost four games at El Madrigal. That legendary squad, coached by Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, had scored 40 goals by this point. In 2008, the Submarine achieved their best ever league championship position, finishing runners-up and gaining direct access to the Champions League for the second time in the club’s history. Goals from Nihat (18 goals and 3 assists), Rossi (11 goals and 2 assists) and Guille Franco (8 goals and 3 assists) helped the team’s performance. Pellegrini’s side were also the team, along with Real Madrid, with the fewest home defeats (2).
