Luis García underlines that the Yellow Submarine dream of a good performance in the Copa del Rey
Villarreal manager Luis García has appeared in front of the press to analyse the build-up to the first leg of the Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Espanyol. “We’re unbeaten in four games and we want to continue that. We believe the Copa del Rey is a competition where we want to continue competing and growing as a team. We will try and follow the same path, but with different aspects because each opponent is distinct. We will try and compete, get the best result possible and get through to the next round, but without losing focus on where we are in LaLiga,” underlined the Yellows boss.
The head coach added that there will be various new faces in the starting lineup, with respect to the last league match: “We’re going to rotate. There isn’t time to prepare the matches and we’re in a complicated moment of the fixture list. We need to make changes. The players that haven’t featured much will have their chance. We will go for the victory, why can’t we get through and have a great Copa del Rey?”
Finally, García underlined the danger of the visitors: “They will be more rested, they played on Friday. They gave us a tough game in LaLiga, it was a hard match for Villarreal. They have gone on a bad run since then, but they have picked up a win or two and have lifted their heads up. They’re a team with quick players up front. We need to play as on and be aware of any potential danger.”
