

Villarreal has given out 25,000 Euros worth of scholarships, 5,000 more than last year, to 32 students
The Post Graduate and Social Council Conference Hall at the Jaume I University (Universitat Jaume I) in Castellón was the chosen stage for today’s Sports Festival (Fiesta del Deporte), an event where the ‘Villarreal Club de Fútbol-UJI’ scholarships are given out to the UJI’s elite athletes, within the Academic Endavant Villarreal CF Sports initiative (Cátedra Endavant Villarreal CF del Deporte). In addition, awards were also given out to the winners of internal competitions to reward the efforts of those teams and players that participated.
The event was attended by Villarreal CF Institutional Relations member, Tino Traver, Campus, Infrastructure and New Technology Vice Chancellor, Pablo Aibar, and Director of UJI Sports Services, Carlos Hernando.
On this occasion Villarreal has given out 25,000 Euros worth of scholarships, 5,000 more with respect to last year, shared between 32 university students from 12 different sporting disciplines, with a special mention for this year’s medalists at the Spain university championships Eric Peñalver, Oksana Ferentsyk, Osarumen Odeh, Víctor Ruiz and Andrea Cabré in athletics; Patricia Miralles and Sofia Cervera, in padel, and Pau Torralba, in taekwondo. In addition to these 25,000 Euros, Villarreal CF has added 10,000 more for training. In total, Villarreal CF has allocated 35,000 Euros to the Academic Endavant Villarreal CF Sports initiative.
The Elite Sports Programme (Programa de Deportistas de Élite), started in 1999 to help those student athletes competing at a high level to manage their academic and sports pursuits and be able to combine their studies and daily training, has benefited a total of 359 Jaume I students. This year, a total of 32 elite athletes have received scholarships.
Villarreal CF member of Institutional Relations, Tino Traver, said that “it’s the club’s will to support and help other sports, to be at your side and contribute to making you better students and athletes”. Furthermore, Tino Traver talked about the importance of values, the desire to improve and breaking the psychological barriers we put on sports like athlete Roger Bannister and triathlete Jonathan Brownlee.
