He is only lacking a goal in an official match. Villarreal’s French-Cameroonian striker, Karl Toko Ekambi, seems to have fit in perfectly in Javi Calleja’s front line. In fact, the Yellow number 17 is the Submarine player with the most shots on goal (on target) in the first two LaLiga matches against Real Sociedad and Sevilla (5). The only players to have taken more shots on goal in the Spanish top flight are Levante’s Morales and Sevilla’s André Silva (both with 6).
“I feel great. I like this club and I am very happy after the first two LaLiga fixtures. I have adapted very quickly. I know I still haven’t scored, but it’s not the most important thing. I prefer the team to play well and pick up points. If then I score, even better. I understand my teammates very well. I hope it continues like this”, he commented.
For Toko Ekambi, the competition up front will benefit the team: “Villarreal CF is a great club and it’s normal to have competition in each position. I knew it was not going to be easy to play on such a good team. I am having chances on goal because the team plays well. I am not too worried about scoring because I know that with time the goals will come”.
