Tena: “We showed a lot of character and we’re proud”

The coach has congratulated the team for their effort despite the defeat against Atlético de Madrid

Miguel Ángel Tena, interim head coach and current Villarreal CF director of football, appeared before the media to analyse the defeat against Atlético de Madrid (3-1): “We are proud of the game we played. I congratulated the players for the great effort they made. It’s a shame that we couldn’t get anything positive out of it.”

Tena also pointed out that the Submarine showed personality on a tough stage: “We had personality, showing the identity of the club and being brave. We competed better than we had been doing.”

In the same vein, the coach regretted the forced substitutions of Sorloth and Yeremy: “They were two players who had the necessary conditions to hurt Atlético de Madrid. They gave us that speed to be able to link up and run into space. When we made the changes, we lost that threat and Atlético de Madrid were able to defend more calmly and, little by little, gain metres in our own half.”
