Marcelino warns of Málaga danger and believes the Yellows must give everything
A real challenge. The Villarreal manager, Marcelino García Toral, highlighted the difficulty of the Yellows’ next opponent, Málaga CF, who will visit El Madrigal on Saturday (6:15pm CET). The Asturian manager was not short of praise when it came to talking about the Andaluz side, who concede few goals and even fewer losses. “We’ll be playing against a team that lets in very few goals and wins a lot of points, so we know it’s going to be very tough. Of the last eleven games they’ve only lost two, which they did by a very small margin against Sevilla and Barcelona, two really difficult opponents. They have only conceded thirteen goals away from home and now they’re more clinical in front of goal too which makes them even more dangerous. They are a team that plays direct and to a high tempo, and they are also solid at the back, which is why it will be very demanding and will call for a great effort from us. We hope to play well, even more so as we’re at home, and take advantage of the fact that our rivals in the league table have difficult fixtures to play.
For the Submarine manager it is also a great opportunity for the Yellows to make the draw against Bilbao count. “We want to make the draw against Bilbao count. The best way to do this would be to get a win at home tomorrow. We are going to keep looking up, as looking to third place will make it easier to stay in fourth. We know it’s not going to be easy, there’s a long way to go and it’s not possible to be at 100% all the time, but this opportunity has been given to us and we must fight to the death for it”.
To finish, the Yellow’s manager stressed that the squad is only thinking about the league even though the Europa League match against Napoli next Thursday (El Madrigal, 7pm CET) is looming on the horizon: “Tomorrow’s match is important and we won’t be distracted by the Napoli game, we know what we need to do and we are focused on that”.
