Setién’s Villarreal, strong and competitive

The Yellows have won more than half of their LaLiga matches with the Santander-born coach in the dugout

Quique Setién’s Villarreal have proven to be a winning team. With the Cantabrian head coach at the helm, the Submarine reached an impressive fifth place in LaLiga: winning 14, drawing four and losing just nine of their 27 games.

Furthermore, Setién boasts the best winning percentage in LaLiga by a Villarreal manager in the club’s history: 51.85%, ahead of Pellegrini’s 48.82% and Fran Escribá’s 47.73%.

In terms of goalscoring, Villarreal have also been the top scorers in LaLiga since Quique Setién arrived. The Submarine have scored 45 goals in 27 games, an average of 1.67 goals per game. This is the second best record in the club’s history, only behind the scoring figures achieved in the 2004-05 season, when the club scored a total of 69 goals in 38 matches under Pellegrini, an average of 1.81 goals per game.

In the same vein, Villarreal broke the club record for consecutive games in front of goal in a calendar season in LaLiga. From the match against RCD Mallorca on Gameweek 22 until the end of the season, Setién’s team scored in 17 consecutive matches.
