The Catalan defender has valued spoken positively about his first season as a Yellow
Villarreal CF defender Sergi Cardona appeared before the media this Tuesday to analyse the current situation of the Yellow Submarine, who drew last Saturday against Atlético de Madrid (1-1) and are now preparing for the match against Real Valladolid, next Saturday, at 4:15pm CET, at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
His performances on a personal level
“I feel good. It’s been a good season personally. I’m looking to keep improving as a player and contribute to the team. I see that I’m a better player every year. I still have room for improvement and I want to keep growing as a player.”
Team sensations
“There are stretches like this every season and you have to keep calm when the ups and downs happen. Since the beginning of the year, we have been strong. Especially on the defensive side, where we had room for improvement. In terms of results, we have won one out of three games, but the feelings are positive and we feel strong. We want to reach our maximum level and be where we all want to be at the end of the season.”
Eight magical minutes against RCD Mallorca
“There are moments in the match when everything flows. They are automatisms that come out on their own. We were at a point where we were playing from memory. It just came to us. We enjoyed it a lot and that’s what we’re looking for, to enjoy the games and win them.”
Focus on every game to reach the objective
“What we want is to take it one game at a time. Compete every game and try to win every week. If we do that, we will be able to reach the objective of trying to be in the Champions League.”
Next up: Real Valladolid
“It’s a complicated game, as they all are. We want to be strong at home in the second half of the season. We did it against Mallorca and we want to continue that. We want to start strong from the first minute, showing that we want to win and that our opponents can see that it’s difficult to get points here.”
Being strong at the Estadio de la Cerámica
“It’s something we want to change. It’s one of the team’s objectives. To be strong at home. It’s essential to achieve European qualification. We need to make sure we don’t drop too many points here. If we can do that, the fans will be behind us and it will help us even more to be strong at home.”
Tightest of margins in LALIGA
“There is a lot of equality. Teams can take points at any ground. We have to go for the game from the start. We have to respect our opponents and know that if we don’t give 100% we won’t beat Valladolid or any other opponent’.”
Full-back with the second most assists
“I feel I could have more. It’s something I want to demand more of myself. It’s not something that worries me too much. The way I play, I manage to get higher. I would like to improve and add more between now and the end of the season. It will be very good for the team.”
