The Galician midfielder is the second outfield player with the most minutes played in LALIGA
Santi Comesaña is having an outstanding season with Villarreal CF, establishing himself as an indispensable piece in Marcelino García Toral’s set-up. In fact, the Galician midfielder is the second outfield player with the most minutes played in LALIGA (1,900), only behind Alberto Moleiro (1,910).
To his consistency and great physical ability to perform in both boxes, he adds three goals and five assists in the domestic competition. It is also worth highlighting that Comesaña has now surpassed the milestone of 100 official matches wearing the Yellow shirt.
After the win at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Real Sociedad, the Galician footballer spoke to the media during the international break to analyse both his personal situation and the team’s positive moment.
Regarding his prominent role, Santi Comesaña expressed his gratitude: “In terms of minutes, I am super happy with the manager’s trust. I hope I can continue to have it. I am trying to do my job as well as I can. The competition I have in midfield is very good and that makes me raise my level. When another team-mate has had to play, he has also done well. The important thing is that everyone, when they get minutes, does what the head coach asks.”
The Yellow No.14 also highlighted the team’s advantage in the league table, with a 14‑point gap over the fifth‑placed side: “It is something very difficult to do. It deserves recognition. From fifth place downwards, I think we have only lost against Getafe. It seems very easy, but it is very difficult. We value it very positively. Let’s see if we can keep this good dynamic going into the final stretch of the season.”
Despite the favourable situation, Comesaña does not want any relaxation at this decisive stage of the campaign: “We cannot afford to be overconfident at all. Now we have three matches in a row away from home where everyone is playing for something. Nine very difficult points. There is no room to relax, not only because of qualifying for the Champions League again, but also because of being third and staying there.”
Finally, the Yellow midfielder emphasised the team’s strength at home, a key factor: “To be where we are now, the objective will always depend on being strong at home, and we are being very strong at home. The fans are on your side. You feel more comfortable. We feel very comfortable at home, and hopefully we can continue like this. Hopefully we can make Vila-real a fortress.”
