The Villarreal CF president expressed his excitement and praised the club’s work in building a competitive squad to play in three competitions
Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig spoke to the media this Tuesday in a scheduled press conference ahead of the club’s traditional offering to the patron saints of Vila-real, sharing his thoughts on the start of the 2025/26 season, in which the Yellow Submarine will compete in LALIGA, the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
In his address, the Villarreal CF president expressed his enthusiasm for the new campaign and for the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League for the fifth time:
“We are very excited. It’s a competition that now has a different format with eight games in the league phase. It’s very appealing because we’ll have the opportunity to play against top European teams. We are one of the smallest cities to take part in this competition.”
Roig also highlighted the excellent work the club is doing to strengthen the squad:
“We have sold and signed great players, always with the aim of maintaining financial balance — that’s fundamental. All this with two major challenges: the tax system in the Region of Valencia, which puts us at a big disadvantage compared to international clubs and those from other regions of Spain, and the fact that our ticketing revenue is not comparable to that of our competitors. Even so, we make an effort to remain competitive.”
