The CEO praises the quality of the squad and stresses the importance of maintaining financial balance
Villarreal CF CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles accompanied Oluwaseyi, Mikautadze, Tenas, and Solomon at their official presentation as new Villarreal players. The Yellow executive welcomed the four signings and shared his thoughts with the media on the club’s institutional situation and the recently closed transfer window.
In his opening remarks, Roig Negueroles reflected on the summer market:
“It’s been a transfer window in which we made significant investments, mainly because we had important sales and because we’re competing in the Champions League. Those were the circumstances, but this isn’t our usual level of spending.”
Regarding the club’s objectives, the CEO made the team’s ambitions clear:
“Our aim is to qualify for European competitions again next season, but always with humility and knowing that the first target is to reach 43 points. Of course, we would love to play in the Champions League for two consecutive years, something we’ve never achieved before.”
He also praised the strength of the current squad:
“We’ve managed to put together a great team. I don’t know if it’s the best in our history because it’s always hard to compare different eras, but we are very satisfied.”
Finally, Roig Negueroles highlighted the need to prioritize the club’s financial health:
“Balancing the books is the priority. If we play Champions League and we sell, then we can reinvest. We currently have a squad that we can only afford thanks to European football. We have to go year by year, staying ambitious, but always respecting what our budget and financial balance allow.”
