The Villarreal B defender reassures fans that the reserves will soon be flying
Villarreal B defender Roger Riera has faced the press to analyse the current form of the Mini Submarine and their upcoming game, in which Miguel Álvarez’s team will face CD Castellón (Sunday, 7pm CEST).
The Catalan full-back has recognised that the opening league results haven’t been a fair reflection of the work put in by the Yellows reserves: “It isn’t the start we were hoping for. We always prepare the games hoping to win and it hasn’t worked out. The team is working hard during this week to change things and we will achieve our goals. We need to look up the table and focus on getting three points in our next game.”
Against Castellón, the Yellows have the chance to get their first victory of the season. Riera said: “It’s a very special match for us. The beginning of the season is tough and it has thrown up a clash against a difficult rival. We are working hard to arrive at Castalia in the best shape possible and get our first triumph of the season there.” Riera also compared the local rivals with the last team the Mini Submarine faced, Hércules CF: “They have experienced and seasoned players, who aren’t only experienced in this league, but in leagues further up the pyramid too. We must trust in the work we’ve done and be capable of deploying our play correctly to get a satisfactory results.”
Lastly, the defender spoke about the quick adaption of the new Villarreal B and his new role as captain in the dressing room: “They are perfectly adapting to this level. They are already part of the dynamic of the group and working at a good level. This season, I am one of the veterans of the team, trying to help my team-mates and make it easy for them to settle in.”
