The seven players called up by their national teams have already played the first of two international matches
Álex Baena, Yeremy Pino, Ben Brereton, Juan Foyth, Aïssa Mandi, Iker Álvarez and Ilias Akhomach have already played the first of the two matches played by their respective national teams in the current window of international matches.
The Spanish national team of Álex Baena and the recently called-up Yeremy Pino defeated Georgia 7-1, although neither Villarreal player was in action.
Aïssa Mandi had an important role and played all 90 minutes in the Algeria match against Tanzania, a qualifier for the African Cup of Nations, which ended 0-0.
Ben Brereton Díaz also played the full match in Chile’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Uruguay. Juan Foyth was not called up for Argentina’s opening match against Ecuador, which they won 1-0.
Villarreal B goalkeeper Iker Álvarez was in goal for Andorra against Belarus. They held on to keep a clean sheet in the Euro 2024 qualifier.
Finally, Ilias Akhomach shone on his debut for Spain’s Under-21s, who beat Malta 6-0. The winger scored a goal and provided an assist for Santi Denia’s side.
