Villarreal B edge closer to the top spots after another victory against Atlético Sanluqueño
Villarreal B claimed a restorative win over Atlético Sanluqueño (2-0) in a game where the Yellows were the better side from start to finish. With goals from Álex Rubio – now on seven for the season – and Diatta, David Albelda’s side secured their second consecutive victory to move within just two points of the promotion zone.
The good news came early for the reserves. The ball had barely started rolling when, in the 5th minute, Álex Rubio capitalised on a dangerous run down the flank to slot home a low strike into the far corner for the opener.
Just a minute later, Hugo López had a clear chance to make it 2-0 for Albelda’s men, though the second goal would not arrive until past the half-hour mark, when Diatta converted from the penalty spot to double Villarreal B’s advantage.
The goal brought a sense of calm to Albelda’s side, who took control of the tempo of the game after the visitors were reduced to ten men when Dani Satoca was shown a second yellow card for the foul that led to the penalty.
In the second half, the Yellows nearly extended their lead again in the 48th minute when Viveros found the net after a fine team move, but the Argentine’s goal was eventually ruled out following a VAR review.
