Villarreal’s 2018/19 squad get the ball rolling in their first preseason session at the Ciudad Deportiva
The Yellow Submarine is up and running. After three days of medical tests, the time has come for the Yellows to lace up their boots. Villarreal’s 2018/19 squad started their preseason training this afternoon on Pitch 1 at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). Javi Calleja has three players out injured (Bruno, Trigueros and Javi Fuego), two players still away on international duty at the World Cup (N’Diaye and Cheryshev), as well as Daniele Bonera, who is set to return late as he has special permission from the club to finish a coaching course in Italy. N’Diaye and Cheryshev, who recently represented their respective nations at the World Cup, will join the team later as well as they have been granted two more weeks of rest until they join the team later in July. Samu Chukweze, a young Nigerian player who represented the Villarreal B team last season, will also be joining the first team for preseason as soon as he returns from his holidays in Nigeria.
The following players training under Javi Calleja this preseason are: Pablo Fornals, Álvaro González, Adrián Marín, Víctor Ruiz, Santi Cazorla, Segrgio Asenjo, Samu Castillejo, Nicola Sansone, Gerard Moreno, Enes Ünal, Alfonso Pedraza, Jaume Costa, Mario Gaspar, Roberto Soriano, Mariano Barbosa, Andrés Fernández, Dani Raba, Karl Toko Ekambi, Ramiro Funes Mori, Nahuel Leiva, Ramiro Guerra, Leo Suárez, Pau Francisco Torres, Manu Morlanes and Miguelón.
However, Bruno Soriano, Javi Fuego and Manu Trigueros are all unable to train with the squad as they are still recovering from their respective injuries.
Injuries:
- Bruno Soriano: In the process of rehabilitation after the removal of a bone spur in the anterior tuberosity of his left leg.
- Manu Trigueros: In the process of recovery from a bilateral tenotomy of his adductors.
- Javi Fuego: Continues to experience discomfort in his right ankle, an injury that he sustained at the end of last season.

- Wednesday 1st August: Angers SCO vs Villarreal CF (Stade Raymond Kopa, 7pm).
