Villarreal CF and their fans will try together to get a win that keeps them in the fight for the Champions League
Villarreal CF host CA Osasuna at the Estadio de la Cerámica this Saturday at 4:15pm CEST for a vitally important match, in which the Yellows need to take all three points to stay in fifth place and manage their advantage in the fight for the Champions League.
After the Submarine’s all-important 1-0 win over Espanyol last Sunday in the match postponed due to the rain alert, Marcelino’s men will be aiming for a valuable win against CA Osasuna, which would keep them in the last Champions League spot
The away side are also playing to finish either seventh or eighth in the standings to be able to compete in the Europa League or Conference League next season. Vicente Moreno’s side are on an impressive run of five consecutive matches without defeat.
The Yellow Submarine are playing a fantastic level of football at home and this weekend they will try to show their best version again to get the victory. In addition, two of their most talented players, Álex Baena and Gerard Moreno, are in the final stages of their recovery to try to be available for the match against Osasuna.
The negative note is the suspension of Yeremy Pino, who picked up his fifth yellow card against Espanyol. The winger has been in great form and will be mished. He scored and asissted in the match against Real Sociedad, and also got the winner over Espanyol.
The precedents are in the Submarine’s favour
The last five head-to-head encounters between the two clubs at the Estadio de la Cerámica have generally gone in Villarreal’s favour. The Submarine have won 2-0 and 3-1 at home in the last two seasons. They also took all three points in the 2019/20 season. On the other hand, the side from Navarra managed to win in the two historic campaigns in which, with Emery at the helm, they lifted the Europa League and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
In the first meeting between the two teams this season played at El Sadar, Villarreal got the equaliser in the second half with two goals from players who have just completed their recoveries and are looking to be available against Osasuna: Álex Baena, after a low cross from Yeremy, and Gerard Moreno, who scored from the penalty spot in stoppage time to make it 2-2.
