The Ivorian striker has acknowledged that he feels Villarreal is the ideal place to establish the best version of himself
Villarreal striker Nicolas Pepe appeared before the media on Wednesday to analyse his personal moment and the current situation of the Submarine, who face Girona FC at Montilivi this Saturday at 6:30pm CEST.
“I think I’m at my best at the moment. I’ve suffered injuries during the season, but I’ve worked well to recover and be ready for the end of the season. I’m available and at a high level. I’m working hard to be at my best here. I think this is the place to do it’, said the striker.
The attacker was one of the best players against Osasuna, where he scored a goal and provided two assists: “I think I had a good game. I started on the right and I understood my teammates very well. We are getting to know each other better and better on the pitch. As a result of that work and that connection, I was able to score and give assists.”
One of Pepe’s great virtues is his versatility. He feels comfortable on the right flank and as a striker: “I’ve always played on the right. It’s the position in which I’ve played the most and in which I probably feel most comfortable, but since I arrived here I’ve been offered the option of playing up front as well. They are two similar positions and I think I can give my best in both.”
On a collective level, Nicolas Pepe is aiming for the Champions League, an exciting and ambitious objective that the Submarine are fighting for: “I’ve never played in the Champions League and I’d love to do it with Villarreal. It’s our objective. The fight is between us and Betis. Athletic are a bit higher up. In any case, we prefer to focus on ourselves and our work, without looking at the results of our rivals. For that, we have to think about winning every game.”
