Speaking to the press, Pacheta was optimistic and pointed out that the team has shown some interesting aspects in recent games: “In the last few games, I’ve seen things to be excited about. We want to give continuity to the vertical football of the first hour against Girona and show the solidity that we showed in Getafe. That’s the way to get victories.”

The coach was clear about the objective of the match against Stade Rennais, a team that has yet to taste defeat: “We have to win. I think we are in a position to do so. They haven’t lost all year, but one day they have to lose. This is Villarreal and Villarreal always have to win. But to do that we have to bring out our strengths and minimise those of our opponents. At the same time we hide our weaknesses and accentuate theirs.”

As for Stade Rennais, Pacheta highlighted their dynamism and verticality: “They are a young team, with vertical players on the outside and dynamic players in attack who are in a great moment. They are an aggressive team, with and without the ball, who also play very well in space. We mustn’t concede anything to them. We have to be precise with the ball and, from possession, set the tempo of the game.”

In the same vein, the head coach from Burgos predicted a duel between two sides with contrasting styles and interests: “They want an open game, back and forth. They are a team that attacks well in space, they are strong in duels, they will be looking for transitions. They are strong and young. They will be looking for a lot of pace. We have to look for a different type of game. We have to be faithful to what we train. That’s what will give us continuity. We have to have a plan and carry it out convincingly.”
