Villarreal get their fourth pre-season win by beating FC Köln 1-3
Another victory. Villarreal got their fourth pre-season win in a row, after beating FC Köln 1-3 thanks to goals from Ramiro Funes Mori, Gerard Moreno and Carlos Bacca, who turned out the earlier goal from Terodde from the penalty spot for the Bundesliga side.
The Yellows fought back after an intense start from the German side, who got ahead on the scoreboard thanks to Terodde’s penalty with just a minute gone. The game was tough because of the heavy rain at the Kufstein Arena, which made circulating the ball hard, which is a strength of Javi Callej’a side. The Yellow Submarine also showed their capability in the air and that they can use set pieces to their advantage: after a great Santi Cazorla free-kick, Funes Mori headed home from within the six-yard box to score the equaliser just before half-time.
After the break, the roles reversed and Villarreal surprised the German side early on after a great run from Bacca, which ended with a shot off the bar, before Moreno’s goalscoring instinct saw him put the rebound inthe back of the net.
After holding out from Köln’s attacks, Bacca once more got free of the defence, finishing skilfully between Timo Horn’s legs.
The Yellows are still looking good in pre-season. Next-up, it’s Schalke 04 on Friday 2nd August (6pm CEST).
